Dressing for your session - whether you're engaged, celebrating an anniversary, or just because...

Having trouble figuring out what to wear? It's okay. I'm here to help!

Here are a few of my simplest tips for choosing the best outfits for your engagement session.

  1. Choose a color palette and stick with it (earth tones, cool tones, warms tones, neutrals, pastels, etc.) I love neutrals because they photograph well and stand the test of time.
  2. Stay away from logos and super busy patterns, as they can be distracting in photos. A simple, timeless pattern (stripes, polka dots, florals) can be good for one of you, but balance that out with a solid color for the other person.
  3. Dress in something you feel good in. I know, easier said than done. But think comfortable and flattering. I'm a big fan of flowy dresses for women (if that's your style) because they're flattering and provide movement, which translates well in photos. But most importantly, choose clothes that feel like YOU.
  4. Think about your scenery. Try to choose colors that complement your environment, but don't blend in too much! (Don't wear too much green or brown if you're taking photos in the forest.)

Take a look at some of these real couples I've photographed for inspiration--from Carmel beaches to wild Big Sur and all the pretty California mountains and forests in between. Don't worry, you've got this!
